Berea Hospital, Facility Assessment

CLOSE

BEREA HOSPITAL
Berea, Kentucky

Berea Hospital is located on the Berea College campus and consists of the original 1917 building with additions in 1932 and 1956, the new main hospital built in 1982, and a medical office building and emergency wing additions in 1996. A long-term care wing was added in 1969.

The hospital received its electrical power, steam and domestic cold water from college-owned and operated systems. However, Berea Hospital was considering an ownership transition which would require that it become a stand-alone facility. The College was also considering a conversion of its existing steam system to hot water and chilled water systems.

EEI provided engineered systems evaluations and master plan recommendations for a new boiler plant at the hospital to replace the existing college steam system. EEI collaborated directly with the Berea Hospital staff, college officials, the hospital's owner's representative and other consultants during its evaluations. EEI provided a report with recommendations and alternatives to minimize expenditures and utility consumption, while salvaging equipment with reasonable service and performance life remaining.
