WHIDBEY GENERAL HOSPITAL ADDITIONS AND REMODELS Coupeville, Washington
EEI was hired as a sub-consultant to Northwest Architectural Company for a series of additions and remodels to Whidbey General Hospital's existing facility. This project added a variety of outpatient treatment spaces and expanded the diagnostic imaging and emergency rooms. The project square footage included 6,000 square feet of building additions and 20,000 square feet of remodeled areas. The scope of this work was later expanded to include the design of a new 2,600 square foot medical records area in the basement of the hospital.
EEI services included engineering design and construction review of the mechanical, electrical, medical gas, and plumbing systems. In addition to the design services generally associated with a project of this type, EEI was asked to design the expansion and extension of the emergency power system to equipment, lighting, and receptacles in accordance with hospital codes. Specialized engineering services included the incorporation of new diagnostic imaging equipment into a new imaging area. The new area included an MRI, C/T scan, Mammography, Dexa, and Ultrasound equipment.
The project was completed in multiple phases over the course of a two-year period, with the hospital remaining fully functional throughout the construction process.
