The National Renewable Energy Laboratory selected EEI as the Commissioning Authority for the design and construction of this LEED Platinum-certified facility. This is the first federal building to receive Platinum certification.
This new facility is a two-story laboratory/office building, comprising approximately 10,400 SF of office space; 34,400 SF of laboratory and lab support areas and 26,500 SF of building support spaces. Office areas have a raised-floor distribution system.
Features of the building design included in the commissioning include:
- Variable air volume supply and exhaust for all laboratory areas
- Supplementary heating and cooling of lab areas
- Under-floor air supply for all office areas
- Process and specialty gas pathways with toxic gas monitoring
- Exhaust air energy recovery systems
- Direct/indirect evaporative cooling systems
- Expanded central plant shared with an existing building
- High-efficiency chillers and boilers
- Hydronic free cooling
- 100% daylighting in office areas and laboratories
- Lighting control systems throughout the building
