UNC Charlotte Center City Building

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is constructing the 12-story Charlotte Center City Building to house an art gallery, a 300-seat auditorium, a 100-seat public lecture hall, and a café.  The Center City Building will be located in a 22-acre mixed-use “urban village”.  Eventually, the urban village is expected to include parking garages and up to 2 million SF of offices, apartments, condos, shops and restaurants. The project team is pursuing U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Silver certification.

EEI was hired to provide building commissioning services, including LEED Energy and Atmosphere Prerequisite 1 (Fundamental Building Commissioning), EA Credit 3 (Enhanced Commissioning), and IEQ Credit 3.1 and 3.2 (Indoor Air Quality Plan and Testing).

EEI is commissioning the following systems and equipment:

  • HVAC and refrigeration systems and associated controls
  • Lighting and daylighting controls
  • Domestic hot water systems
  • Renewable energy systems (wind, solar, etc.)
  • Fire protection
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical (including emergency power)
