Ardmore Elementary

Bellevue, Washington

This 68,000-SF replacement elementary school is the home of Bellevue Public Schools' Early Childcare Complex, which contains classrooms, administrative work areas, a library and a large gymnasium/multi-purpose room.

EEI was hired to provide mechanical design services, including plans and specifications for the HVAC system, plumbing and fire protection performance.  Heating and cooling for the entire school is provided by a ground source geothermal heat pump system, creating a campus with zero CO2 emissions.  Other energy efficient design features include the use of high efficiency air-to-air heat recovery units to pre-treat the outside air, electronically commutated motors on all of the heat pumps, and the use of variable speed drives on the pumping systems and the heat recovery units.  Demand control ventilation is utilized in the gym and library.  The library also takes advantage of natural ventilation.
