Project Description

Project Description

The Tacoma Eastside Community Center was a community project from the beginning, driven in part by community resident Shalisa Hayes in loving memory of her late son Billy Ray.

Billy Ray’s desire to provide the youth in his community with an outlet lead to this recreational and educational center that provides a variety of programs and classed. This project has been funded in part by the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma.

The 55,000 SF building includes 39,500 SF on the first floor and 15,900 SF on the second. Feature spaces include a 318,000 gallon swimming pool with lap lanes, a water slide, a diving board, a vortex pool, and a hot tub. Additionally, program spaces include locker rooms, a gym with a suspended track, classroom and meeting rooms, a large social hall with commercial kitchen, a recording studio, and spaces for fitness and exercise.

EEI was brought in to provide commissioning services for a variety of systems, during which all identified issues were addressed and resolved. Our efforts helped the Tacoma Eastside Community Center achieve LEED Silver certification. EEI is proud to be part of a community-wide effort to provide better resources to inner-city kids.
